Written by Ian Skelly, the ever popular Radio Three presenter and speech writer for HRH Prince of Wales, this evening offers a highly entertaining, witty and insightful look at the richly historied relationship between music and the monarchy.
Told from the perspective of the very first ‘Master of the King’s Musick’ Nicholas Lanier (played by renowned actor David Holt, star of Watership Down) as he travels back and forth in time, the performance covers several centuries, numerous monarchs and countless composers.
The evening promises to be a quirky and often comical entertainment, full of fascinating anecdotes and wonderful music, including much-loved works such as Purcell’s Dido’s Lament, songs by Noel Coward, Elgar’s Nimrod and Handel’s Zadok the Priest.
