LICMF 2018’s final concert brings together the two overarching themes of the festival - the centenaries of Debussy and World War 1. Both Debussy’s violin sonata and Elgar’s string quartet were composed during the war, in 1917 and 1918 respectively. Korngold’s glorious suite was written for Paul Wittgenstein, a successful pianist who lost his right arm during WW1 and who went on to commission left-hand works from many major composers.
