Trio Apaches return for their traditional LICMF Monday recital with a programme marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian revolution.
Originally written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the revolution, Shostakovich’s ‘Blok Songs’ are personal, intimate & heartfelt, while Rachmaninov – forced to flee Russia in the aftermath of the revolution – dedicated his epic second trio to the memory of Tchaikovsky.
Roslavets, a significant modernist composer from the Ukraine, suffered greatly under the Stalin regime & his music was officially suppressed from 1930 onwards. We are delighted to present a rare performance of his third trio, a much-neglected but highly accomplished work of great interest that deserves to be heard more often.
